Operation Smile is a not-for-profit, volunteer medical services organization that provides reconstructive facial surgery to indigent children and young adults in developing countries around the world. The medical team provides surgeries for children born with cleft lips and cleft palates. The cost of one surgery is just $240, so this year’s event will be able to change the lives of five children. The So Cal Group has partnered with Operation Smile for several years, and the team is excited to be able to help sponsor more medical mission trips for next year. The So Cal Group would like to thank Justine and family for planning and supporting our organization in this annual event. Congratulations to Colby and team for taking home the winning title!

Helping out at the NCJW’s Back to School event!

The So Cal Group Human Resources Department teamed up with the National Council of Jewish Women this week for their annual Back 2 School Sale. The purpose of the event is to help provide shoes, clothing and school supplies to children and families in need. The NCJW has been planning and preparing for this event since last summer, and volunteers for the organization have been collecting donations tThe So Cal Group- Volunteering for the NCJW Back to School Event (5)o use at the “store” during the event.

Children and parents in attendance participated in several activities. When they arrived they were assigned to a volunteer who took them “shopping.” The children were able to choose shirts, pants, sweatshirts, socks, underwear and shoes that they liked, and then brought them home in a shopping bag. Afterward, they headed outside to select a backpack full of school supplies: brand new folders, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, notebooks, erasers, rulers and more. They also stopped by the popcorn stand, art station, and jump house.  Overall the event was a great success, the children had a great time going “shopping”, and they are prepped to have an awesome school year.

Red Nose Day at The So Cal Group

To show support for the Red Nose Day campaign, The So Cal Group team proudly sported red noses on Thursday, May 21st. Red Nose Day, created by Jane Tewson and Richard Curtis, was implemented to help increase awareness for impoverished youth around the globe. A televised fundraiser held on NBC, was highly successful due to the efforts of many of the nation’s most talented celebrity performers. Through a nationwide collective effort, the event raised an awe-inspiring $21 million.

The So Cal Group team voiced support for the campaign on social media, throughout the office, and when meeting with customers. The support displayed by all team members reinforced The So Cal Group’s commitment to spreading positive change. The organization looks forward to participating in Red Nose Day again in the future.

The So Cal Group Delivers Hope for the Holidays

At The So Cal Group, when team members are not busy learning, or helping out clients, they focus on serving the community. Looking to make an impact during the holidays, the team volunteered at Grandma’s House of Hope for the organization’s Annual Christmas Party event on Dec. 20, 2014. Team members spent the day helping the less fortunate, in Santa’s Workshop. Grandma’s House of Hope, a nonprofit organization located in Orange County, continuously inspires others with their encouraging message and vision for the future. The organization offers three assistance programs to aid the community’s impoverished population.

The So Cal Group team members, eager for an opportunity to help, spent the day participating in the event’s two shops. Working in two shifts, The So Cal Group successfully offered both parents and children the chance to select and wrap gifts for one another. Excited parents and children filled Santa’s Workshop, hoping to provide loved ones with holiday cheer. The So Cal Group’s efforts allowed guests to feel welcome and built lasting relationships.

After the event, The So Cal Group’s, Lindsay Brogan explained, “Volunteering was both fun and rewarding, overall. “Working with the families allows us to recognize and appreciate the opportunities we’ve been given.”

Moving forward, The So Cal Group will continue their philanthropic endeavors, while maintaining their commitment to professionalism and integrity.

Volunteering at Mary’s Food Kitchen

A few team members spent their Saturday volunteering at Mary’s Kitchen in the city of Orange. The team helped prepare hot lunches to serve, as well as a giant fruit salad. Then they packed to-go lunches for community members in need. After all the preparations, the team served the lunches and passed out to-go bags to the patrons.
